Borderway’s Jenny Strong Shortlisted for National Award

Borderway’s Assistant Sales Manager, Jenny Strong, is flying the flag for Women in Credit having been shortlisted for a national award. Now in their 7th year, the Women in Credit Awards celebrate and champion the work of women who have made a significant contribution and have inspired others in the financial services industry.

Jenny has been part of the Cumberland family since 2003 when she joined the Society in the mortgage admin department before moving into our People and Culture team. A few years later she joined the Cumberland’s branch network progressing her way to Branch Manager for 6 branches across the network.

She joined the Borderway team in 2017 as one of our Direct and Corporate Account Managers, helping new customers with their motor finance enquiries, as well as servicing our existing customers, always providing a high level of customer experience.

Jenny is our very own Community Champion and has been instrumental in driving our team’s charity work. Everyone within the Society is given a day each year to help in the local community and Jenny ensures everyone in the team uses their day.

She has developed a strong relationship with People First, a local advocacy charity who help people with learning disabilities to live their best lives. She has organised multiple events for the charity including sponsored walks, bake sales and managed to convince some of the team to take part in this year’s Cumbrian Run, raising over £8,000 for the charity. She has also been recognised for this internally by winning two of the Society’s ‘Our Kind of People Awards’ after being nominated by her colleagues for her hard work and dedication.

She has taken a keen role in coaching and mentoring in the Borderway team and has recently been promoted to our Assistant Sales Manager. As well as overseeing the day to day running of our sales team, she continues to develop others, encouraging them to be the best they can be.

There are 16 awards up for grabs on the night and Jenny has been shortlisted in the Team Player of the Year category, which recognises those individuals who have made a special contribution to the team they work in. Jenny said “I feel privileged to have been part of the Borderway and Cumberland family for the last 22 years. They really allow me to bring my best self to my role to make a difference to our colleagues and local communities.

"Being nominated and shortlisted for team player of the year is an absolute honour. Whilst being up against some very tough competition, I hope I can bring the award home for Borderway Finance, an amazing team who support me in everything I do.”

Hosted by Credit Strategy, the awards take place at the Hilton in Manchester on the 9th of October and Jenny will be joined by the Cumberland’s Chief Customer Office, Claire Deekes, on the evening. Claire said “I am delighted that Jenny has been recognised for this prestigious award as it recognises the significant contribution she has made to her team and the wider community within our area. She is an inspiration to many and she should be so proud of this nomination which is so well deserved.”
